Description

The Corroboree Frog, one of the world’s most striking amphibians, is known for its bold yellow-and-black stripes. Native to Australia’s sub-alpine regions, it is critically endangered, with fewer than 50 adult Southern Corroboree Frogs remaining. This tiny species helps control ants and small invertebrates but now faces a severe threat from chytrid fungus, a disease devastating frog populations globally.

Conservation Status:

IUCN status: CR – Critically Endangered

Habitat:

Southern Corroboree Frogs breed in pools and seepages within sphagnum bogs, wet grasslands, fens, and heath, while also feeding and sheltering in nearby forests and woodlands. They are now only found in the Jagungal Wilderness Area of Kosciuszko National Park, with their range reduced by 90%. Northern CorroboreeFrogs inhabit the high country of the ACT and nearby NSW, including the Brindabella and Bimberi Ranges, thriving in waterlogged grasslands, heath, moss bogs, and adjacent woodlands.
