Found along the East Coast, these shy, protected lizards prefer cooler temperatures and are often seen near water, where they dive to escape threats.

Description
Active in the mornings and overcast days, they can be spotted basking, swimming, or foraging in spring and summer, with young dragons relying on camouflage to stay hidden.

Protected in all states and territories where it occurs naturally: Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Victoria.
Habitat:
Eastern Water Dragons are semi-aquatic and found along Australia’s east coast, typically near creeks, rivers, and lakes. They can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes, surfacing only when they need to breathe.
